We have had a great (busy!) week! The children have been working on their masks for the plays we are preparing for "The Three Little Pigs", collecting food for the Barrhaven Food Cupboard, playing with the Osmo and Ipads, and we've been working on the letter "G".
Today the class had a great brainstorming session about how we can use the idea of collaboration to help those less fortunate. We will be collecting non-perishable food items and toiletry items over the next week. Groups of children will work together in class to organize the donations and to design/decorate their donation box. Please help the children in this generous endeavor through donating any food or toiletry item you can. Thanks in advance! :)
We are now on Twitter! Check out our Twitter account using the icon in the top right corner of the website. We will continue to use the website and our Twitter account to keep you informed with what is going on in class.
Here is a quick reference to help you understand what kind of pencil grasp your child has. The goal is to hold the pencil in the "tripod grasp".
Brandon and Owen were hammering away using wood mallets, golf tees and styrofoam. Jayden was busy playing trains. The last image shows KJW's masterpiece, Starry Night (made with construction paper, felt, tissue paper, markers, fake moss and crayons). What a busy day! We are trying to collaborate as we build. We know that when we collaborate we listen to others, we help our friends, we take turns and we really try to work together. Grace, Seraphina and Ashley worked together to make a bridge with the wood blocks: Jacob and Giuliano worked together to read a Lego plan and build their creation. Giuliano, Macy, Chloe, Loreta and Aida were challenged to build a new house for one of the three little pigs using the foam blocks. They had to collaborate in order to build one house they all liked! At the end of building a house for the pigs, each student had to complete a self-evaluation on how they collaborated. The kids have been working together really well to build a variety of things. Julia, Gage & Jacob were hard at work in the construction zone. Alicia and Aida built an animal track. Megan, Kaylie, Ashley and Annika built a great structure for their dinosaurs.
